I first learned of The December 5th Fund through a fellow Board Member and was immediately drawn to their mission and vision.
I have been a nurse for 17 years, twelve of which have been as a neonatal nurse practitioner. My work with children with Congenital Heart Defects has lead me to work with children battling cancer. Children fighting cancer often need very strong chemotherapy & radiation which destroys cancer but also destroys the heart muscle leading to heart failure. My team at St. Louis Children’s Hospital will implant a ventricle assist device in the heart of children with cancer to help support their heart function during cancer treatment. The resiliency of these patients and families gives me a strong perspective on life. When the day seems too tough, I reflect on what my patients endure to have a chance at life just one more day, one more week, one more month, one more year which allows me to see the big picture.
When I’m not serving on the Board of Directors for The December 5th Fund, you’ll find me playing basketball and going fishing with my kids. I love to travel the world with my husband & kids…the crazier the adventure, the better.
